Visa launches “Shop Small Everyday” campaign to support MSMEs and drive digital payments in Cambodia

01/26/2026

  • Visa’s “Shop Small Everyday” campaign makes it easier for Cambodians to support local businesses with simple, secure digital payment options like Scan to Pay and Tap to Pay contactless payment options – bringing more choice and convenience to shoppers and merchants alike.

Visa (NYSE: V), a global leader in digital payments, has launched the “Shop Small Everyday” program in Cambodia, starting with Siem Reap as the first pilot city. The campaign is designed to champion locally owned businesses and give consumers and merchants greater choice in how they pay and get paid. By making Visa’s Scan to Pay and Tap to Pay digital payment options more visible and accessible, shoppers can enjoy quick, secure, and convenient transactions while helping small businesses thrive.

Aligned with the National Bank of Cambodia’s vision to advance financial inclusion and digital literacy, Visa’s initiative complements the country’s progress in interoperable payments, building on the strong momentum of Bakong’s KHQR framework. By broadening acceptance – particularly for inbound cross-border transactions – Visa aims to enhance trust, accessibility, and participation in Cambodia’s digital economy.

Visa is rolling out point-of-sale marketing materials across Siem Reap, Angkor Archaeological Park, Pradak Village, Bakong Village, and Siem Reap Angkor International Airport. These signs make it easy for shoppers to spot where Visa is accepted – from food stalls and clothing shops to souvenir stores, grocery outlets, and more – all run by Cambodian entrepreneurs.Shoppers can enjoy Visa’s Scan to Pay and Tap to Pay solutions for seamless transactions. With Scan to Pay, simply open your mobile banking app, scan the merchant’s QR code, and pay instantly using your Visa card – no cash, no hassle. Tap to Pay is just as simple: tap your Visa card or device on the payment terminal. Both options make everyday purchases at cafés, shopping streets, and tourist spots easier and safer.

To make payments more rewarding, cardholders can redeem Brown Coffee digital vouchers and complimentary registrations for popular running events organized by Cambodia Events Organizer, such as the Women’s Fun Run, the Phnom Penh Half Marathon, and the Siem Reap International Half Marathon. Looking ahead, Visa will continue introducing initiatives that give consumers more choice and convenience while helping MSMEs grow sustainably.

“Small businesses are the backbone of Cambodia’s economy. Visa is committed to supporting the adoption of digital payments to further drive entrepreneurship, strengthen tourism, and build a modern, connected economy. By helping MSME owners embrace secure, convenient payment solutions, we aim to empower them to grow their businesses, improve financial resilience, and uplift their livelihoods – creating opportunities that benefit families and communities across Cambodia,” said Lisa Sargent, Country Manager, Visa Cambodia.

The “Shop Small Everyday” campaign is built with Cambodia’s Millennials and Gen Z in mind, and designed to make payments easier, safer, and more convenient for everyone. Through simple digital education for consumers and practical training for small businesses, the campaign aims to improve acceptance, reduce cash-handling risks, and create smoother everyday experiences. Together, these efforts strengthen local communities and support sustainable growth for small merchants in Cambodia.

Separately, Visa supports tourism merchants through its SMB Online Toolkit, launched last year, which provides guidance and resources to optimize contactless payment benefits. In partnership with the Bakong Tourists App, Visa is enhancing digital payment access for international visitors, who can pay seamlessly by downloading the app, registering, and linking their Visa cards from their home countries.
